Call for Abstracts

The Scientific Program Committee of the Combined Scientific Congress 2020 invites you to submit an abstract of your scientific research, for presentation at the CSC in Wellington.

Online abstract submission via the Congress website will close by Friday, 3 July 2020.

To submit an abstract, please click on the Abstracts Submission Portal button below.

Once an abstract is submitted, it can be viewed (read only) via the CSC 2020 Abstract Submissions Portal. Amendments will need to be notified to Olivia.

Abstract Submission Guidelines

Please ensure you have downloaded and read through the following documents prior to the submission of your abstract

Download the guidelines and template provided to ensure your abstract is formatted correctly and follow the instructions carefully. The headings are an indication of the expected format. In addition to the maximum 400 word count of abstract text, ONE graph and/or ONE table of direct relevance to the results may be included. The list of authors and affiliations does not count towards the abstract word count. Any abbreviations must be spelt out on first use. The template lists the font details for the abstract.

No hardcopy, faxed or emailed submissions will be accepted.

Presentation Formats and Prizes

Submission for a prize category is open to ASA and/or NZSA Members and ASA and/or NZSA Trainee Members ONLY and the presenting author's ASA Membership Number or NZSA members name must be included (will be verified by NZSA).

Authors of accepted abstracts may be asked to make a short oral presentation to support their e-poster.

ASA Prizes

Gilbert Troup ASA Prize – awarded for the best oral presentation of original research.

Trainee Member Group (TMG) Best Poster Prize - awarded to the highest rated Trainee poster in any section (including Gilbert Troup prize & Best Poster Prize).

Rupert Hornabrook Prize – awarded to the best Day Care themed poster.

NZSA Prize

John Ritchie Prize - is awarded for the best presentation in the Ritchie Prize Session.

Combined ASA/NZSA Prizes

Best Poster Prize – 2 prizes for the best poster presentations.

Trainee Audit/Survey Prize – awarded for the best audit/survey presentation by an ASA or NZSA Trainee

Important Notes

The deadline for all abstract submissions is Friday 3 July 2020

Please remember that submitting an abstract does NOT automatically register you as a Congress delegate.

Accepted presenting authors will be required to pay and register for the Congress by the end of Early Bird registration. Failure to pay will result in the abstract being withdrawn.

All communications regarding your abstract submission will be sent to the email address you provide when submitting.

We recommend that the email address belongs to the main author who will be presenting at the Congress.

If the presenting author is unable to attend the Congress, please notify us of an alternative presenter or withdraw the abstract. Any alternative presenter must also register for the Congress.

Submissions must be in English.

Terms & Conditions

By submitting an abstract for presentation, you agree to the following terms and conditions:

Appropriate ethics approval has been granted

That the submission is of original research, not previously published in a journal, or presented in any format at a major Australian, New Zealand or other international meeting. All authors must approve the submission.

Submissions in prize categories must meet the specific requirements for that prize

The acceptance of an abstract does not imply provision of travel, accommodation or registration for the CSC, nor any other costs associated with preparation or presentation of the abstract, or any costs associated with attendance at the CSC.

Presenting authors will pay and register for the Congress by the given deadline. Failure to register will result in the abstract being withdrawn.

If the abstract is accepted for presentation, the authors give the ASA CSC permission to publish the abstract and/or electronic presentation on the ASA website, on digital platforms, and in the journal of the ASA, 'Anaesthesia and Intensive Care'

If the abstract is accepted for presentation, the authors give the ASA CSC permission to film or photograph the presentation at the Congress, post it on the ASA website or distribute it to ASA delegates via electronic, digital platforms, or hardcopy.
